STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action Announces New Chief of Staff
NEW ORLEANS (press release) — STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action has announced the appointment of Angèle McClain as Chief of Staff & Special Assistant to the CEO.
A native of New Orleans and a longstanding member of the STEM NOLA family, McClain’s journey is a powerful testament to the organization’s mission of cultivating STEM talent from the ground up. Her connection to STEM NOLA began in 2014 as one of its earliest high school participants. Over the years, she returned as an intern while pursuing her B.S. in Physics at Xavier University of Louisiana, later joining the STEM NOLA team after completing her M.S. in Engineering Management at the University of New Orleans.
Myles Mackie: A Remarkable Story about Mastering STEM to Make a Difference
As a college student, Myles Mackie spent a summer researching the effects of free stream turbulence on low-speed airfoils at the DEVCOM Army Research Labs, another helping design a user interface at a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and yet another working with MIT experts to reduce propeller noise in electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft for applications in urban areas. In May, the 22-year-old, New Orleans engineering whiz graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Howard University.
Now, it’s game on!

LET’S TALK STEM WITH DR. CALVIN MACKIE DISCUSSES RACIAL INEQUITIES IN EDUCATION
Dr. Calvin Mackie, host of the Let’s Talk STEM podcast, talks with Kate Ayers, director of STEM education and outreach at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, about the challenges advancing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for Black and Hispanic students in Memphis.
“We take a variety of approaches to addressing issues of equity and access to STEM learning experiences,” Ayres says. “A lot of our work focuses on developing school partnerships to offer afterschool programs within the school or hosting curriculum collaboratives to really work with the educators to co-create and integrate more science into the learning day. And that’s especially true at the elementary school grade levels.”
Ayres is frank in acknowledging that the education system in Memphis and many other urban areas do a disservice to children of color.

We offer an array of cost-free programs for students designed to build interest and knowledge in STEM at all ages and experience levels to develop a diverse STEM-literate workforce.
